What Is Ohio Best Known For
Ohio is historically known as Buckeye State and was declared a state in 1803. It is believed that Ohio was the first state to have an African American elected to public office.
Ohio is also known to be the first state to enact laws protecting women. The state is also home to soybeans and cornfields.
The first man to walk to the moon was Ohioan and 8 U.S. presidents came from Ohio. The largest available glacial gloves in the universe are found in Ohio.
Ohioans Are Crazy About Football
Many states make a deal about football throughout the year but none does it well as Ohio. In this state, there is no shortage of long-standing heated football rivalries at all levels of the sport.
Attending a football game in Ohio is also unforgettable. There are nice stadiums and sounds. The crowd cheers which makes the bands and cheerleaders do what they are supposed to do.
There are stand-out personalities like Johnny football. Ohio has the most iconic couches in the world for football today.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
The Rock and Roll Hall is a place for music lovers. It is a museum that celebrates the history and significance of rock music and honors people who played it. People are inducted into the hall of fame as performers, non-performers, sidemen, and early influences.
The museum houses several permanent and temporary exhibits. There are special collections and artifacts from some best rock and roll musicians.
The museum offers live rock performances, lectures, films, and panel discussions. I loved the massive collection of memorabilia and the historical aspects behind each exhibit.
Birthplace of the Wright brothers
The two brothers Orville and Wilbur who are credited with inventing, building, and flying the 1st airplane were born here.
They were successful and earned contracts both in Europe and United States. These made them wealthy and were able to own businesses.
They achieved the 1st powered sustained and controlled airplane. Their father was a bishop in the church of the United Brethren of Christ.
Neither of them went to college but their small sister did. They were very bright and everyone thought it’s because of reading books at home in their family’s library.
Corn Production
Ohio is known to produce corn in the United States and is ranked the 7th in leading. The average corn yield is 171 bushels per acre with growers harvesting 3.30 acres for grain. Lowa produces the most corn in the U.S.
Ohio usually has corn warriors who devote their time organizing input data and yield strategies. They also plant over multiple soil types with knowledge and innovative strategies.
Ohio is also a leading agricultural state with 40% being considered prime farmland. Other than corn they raise cattle, sheep, poultry, and hogs. The state factories also produce steel, plastic, metals, and rubbers.
Cedar Point
Cedar Point is a park known as America’s Roller Coast. The Park features a world record with 71 rides. I was amused that the park has 147 ha and was opened in 1870. It is the second-most in the world behind Six Flags Magic Mountain.
My daughter was so afraid of Windseeker Power Tower, MaXair which is a thrill ride. People enjoy the 17 roller coasters. Guests are not permitted to bring food or drinks into the park except for open water bottles.
Cedar Point has some picnic tables outside the main entrance. All vehicles entering the park are charged.
Akron Zoo
The Akron Zoo is a 50-acre nonprofit zoo. I was lucky to have free admission on Monday Presidents Day. The zoo offers more than 35 acres of habitats and guest amenities.
It will take you 2- 4 hours to move around the park for exhibits and undeveloped land. The zoo has more than 1000 animals.
Members do not need to reserve tickets in advance to visit the zoo. The zoo offers great little paths that are safe for little ones.
You will also find physical activities like jumping jacks, and pushups. In case there is an upcoming event where you will enjoy an additional activity for your toddler.
For an extra two dollars, you can ride on the train and be allowed to feed the petting zoo animals. Kids are also allowed to ride on a beautiful carousel.
Cleveland Museum of Art
Cleveland Museum of Art is always free and open to the public. The museum was opened to the public in 1916. The museums comply with requests to photographs and film the artwork. You are not allowed to use flash inside the museum without permission.
It was fun walking through the atrium to get to most of the CMA’s galleries. On the 2nd floor, you will get anchored around the suit of armor sitting on an armored horse. There are helmets, swords, and other weapons from the time of knights and sword battles.
I loved the large wooden sculpture covered with beads that bring together symbols from five different African Counties.
There is another corner for Ancient Egyptian art which is the best of its kind. Enjoy the tiny carvings of baboons and detailed statues and busts.
The CMA’s collection of Southeast Asian, Indian, and Chinese are found in the west wing. Cannot name all of them for there is so much to see.
